Module (QR code)
A module is the smallest square, dark or light, that makes up a QR code. A code ranges from 21 by 21 modules (version 1) to 177 by 177 modules (version 40).

Example
A 25-character short link gives a 25 by 25 module code. Printed 1 inch wide, each module is 0.04 inch (1 mm). A full 300-character vCard gives about 69 by 69 modules at correction M: at the same size, each module shrinks to 0.014 inch (0.36 mm).
Why it matters
Printed module size decides scannability. Below 0.4 to 0.5 mm, phone cameras struggle, especially on textured paper or thermal printers. To keep modules readable, either enlarge the code or shrink the content: a dynamic QR code always holds a short link. The size calculator accounts for density.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum printed module size?
About 0.4 to 0.5 mm for reliable phone scanning, more on fabric or thermal printing.
Why does my code have more modules than another one?
It holds more data or uses a higher error correction level.
