How do you pick the right template?
Start from what people should do after they scan, not from the color. A restaurant menu needs a page that reads well on a phone, a Google review code needs a direct link to the review form, a Wi-Fi code needs to connect without typing. Each template pairs a code type with a style built for that medium: a frame with a call to action for table tents, a clean look for business cards, bold colors for flyers.
What makes a QR code easy to scan?
- Strong contrast between the modules and the background: dark modules on a light background work everywhere. The designer blocks contrast under 3:1 and warns you between 3 and 4.5:1.
- A clear margin around the code (the quiet zone): keep at least 4 empty modules on every side, especially on busy backgrounds.
- A reasonable logo: 30% of the area at most, with the highest error correction, which is set automatically when you add a logo.
- No inverted colors without testing: light modules on a dark background aren't read by every scanner, older ones in particular.
Before every download, QRTada decodes your code to make sure it scans. If it fails, the download is blocked and the designer tells you what to fix.
What size should you print?
Plan for about 1 inch per 10 inches of scanning distance, and never less than 0.8 inch. A code on a table, scanned from a foot away, needs at least 1.2 inches; a poster read from 6 feet needs about 7 inches. The size calculator works it out for your medium.
Can I change the design later?
The design is part of the printed image: changing it means reprinting. Where the code leads can change anytime with a dynamic QR code, without touching what you printed.
