Static codes have their place: a WiFi QR code or text code works with no connection, and static codes are unlimited on every plan. For anything printed that might change (menu, offer, address, PDF), dynamic saves the reprint.
How the redirect works
- The phone reads the pattern and opens the short link, such as
https://qrtada.com/k7Rp2x. - Our server looks up the code's current destination, counts the scan (no cookies, no raw IP) and answers in milliseconds.
- The browser is redirected to the destination, or the hosted page (menu, vCard, PDF) is shown.
The redirect is temporary (302), never permanent (301). A permanent redirect can be cached by the browser: someone who scanned before could keep landing on the old destination after your edit. The glossary explains the 302 redirect.

A dynamic code depends on the service redirecting it. With several competitors, codes stop working when the trial or subscription ends: QRFY documents deactivation after its 7-day trial, Uniqode after its trial, and Scanova at the end of the subscription (pages checked 09/23/2026). Others keep some codes alive: the first 3 at Hovercode, the 10 most recent at QRCodeChimp.
