Know what your printed QR codes actually do

Every scan of a dynamic code is counted: when, from which country, on which device. Enough to know which poster, flyer or window actually brings people in.

What we measure, precisely

QRTada analytics definitions
MetricDefinition
ScanOne opening of a dynamic code's short link, excluding detected bots
Unique scanThe first scan from the same device within 24 hours
CountryDerived from the network at scan time, with no fine-grained geolocation
Device, OS, browserRead from the identifier the browser sends
TimeIn your account's time zone

Bots are excluded: messaging link previews, search crawlers and email security scanners often open links before humans do. Without that filter, a code sent by email would show phantom scans.

Cookieless, on purpose

Counting happens on the server, at redirect time: no cookie lands on the scanner's phone, so these analytics need no consent banner on your hosted pages. IP addresses are never stored raw: they are truncated and mixed with a key that changes daily, only to recognize a unique scan. Data is hosted in Germany, under GDPR.

The dashboard

The account overview shows total scans and unique scans, their trend over 7, 30 or 90 days or a custom range, your top codes and a map of countries. The code view breaks down scans day by day, and on Pro adds device, OS and browser split, a heatmap of hours across the week and a side-by-side comparison of two periods. Filter by folder or tag to isolate a campaign or a client. A scan shows up on the dashboard less than a minute after it happens, which lets you check a poster you just put up.

For a storefront business, the heatmap is often the most telling view: it shows when your window sign or table tent actually gets looked at, and therefore when an offer or a menu change is most likely to be seen. Weekly and monthly email reports bring the key numbers to your inbox, so you do not have to log in to notice a drop.

A method to compare your placements

  1. One code per placement: window, market flyer, mailbox flyer. They can all lead to the same page.
  2. UTM tags on the destination: your web analytics will know where visits come from. The UTM builder suggests a scheme made for print.
  3. A long enough comparison window: two to four weeks, to smooth out weather or one busy weekend.
  4. A decision: reprint what works, drop what does not.

Scans vs visits: why the numbers differ

Your scans and your Google Analytics or Umami sessions never match exactly. Someone who scans and closes the page before it loads counts as a scan, not a visit. A declined cookie banner can erase the visit in Analytics. A 10 to 20% gap is normal; beyond that, check how fast your landing page loads.

And after you cancel?

If you cancel, your codes keep redirecting under the lifetime guarantee. Analytics are no longer viewable, but they keep being aggregated for 12 months: resubscribe and your history is there.

Your codes keep working, even if you stop paying

Every code you create or edit on a paid plan keeps redirecting to its last destination, forever.

Static codes are included in every plan: they rely on no server and never expire.

Frequently asked questions

Is QR code tracking GDPR and privacy friendly?

Yes: no cookies, no raw IP addresses, hosting in Germany. The data only feeds your analytics.

How fast do scans show up?

In under a minute.

Can I see who scanned?

No, by design: analytics are aggregated and cannot identify a person.

Do static codes have analytics?

No, a static code never touches a server. Only dynamic codes are counted.
