QR code type

This QR code will be editable after printing. Its final short link is created with your account.

Opened on iPhone and iPad.

Opened on Android phones.

Opened on a computer or a phone that is neither iPhone nor Android.

How the code picks the right store

At scan time, the server reads the browser identifier the phone sends (the user agent) and redirects to the matching address. You set three destinations:

The three destinations of an app QR code
Detected deviceDestinationLink format
iPhone, iPadApp Store listinghttps://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1234567890
AndroidGoogle Play listinghttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app
Computers and othersYour site or a fallback pageAny address

Smart redirection only works with a dynamic code: a static code holds a single address and cannot adapt to the phone.

  • App Store: in App Store Connect, or by opening the listing in a browser. The numeric ID after id is all you need; the app name in the URL is optional.
  • Google Play: the package name (com.example.app) shows in the Play Console and in the listing URL.

Why not two codes side by side?

Plenty of posters show two QR codes, one for the App Store and one for Google Play. Visitors then have to know which one is theirs, some scan the wrong one, land in a useless store and give up. Two codes also take twice the space, so each prints smaller and reads worse from a distance. One code fixes all three. Keep both official badges under it: they signal the app exists on both platforms without asking anyone to choose.

Tracking installs by platform

On Pro, stats split scans by platform (iOS, Android, other). You learn whether your poster reaches iPhone users more, and can compare with installs in App Store Connect and the Play Console. For finer attribution, Google Play accepts campaign parameters in the URL (&referrer=utm_source%3Dposter), and Apple offers campaign links in App Store Connect.

Where to show the code

  • In store, at the register: your loyalty app, while customers wait.
  • On packaging: the companion app for a connected device, next to the manual.
  • On event screens and posters: the official app of a festival or conference.

Common mistakes

  1. No computer destination: someone scanning with a Windows tablet hits an error. Always set a fallback page.
  2. An app not available in the visitor's country: the store shows an empty page. Check availability by country.
  3. A beta link (TestFlight, Play internal testing): it only works for invited testers.

App store codes are one of the advanced redirect types on Pro, included in the 7-day trial for $0.

What to write next to the code

People install an app when they see what it does for them right now. Replace "Download our app" with the concrete benefit: "Order ahead and skip the line", "Your loyalty points in one tap", "Live festival schedule and maps". Put that line above the code, in type big enough to read from where people stand, and the store badges below it. If the app gives a first-order discount, say so: it is often the single biggest driver of installs from print.

Your codes keep working, even if you stop paying

Every code you create or edit on a paid plan keeps redirecting to its last destination, forever.

Static codes are included in every plan: they rely on no server and never expire.

Frequently asked questions

What do computer users see?

They land on the fallback page you picked, often your site with both download badges.

What about Android tablets and iPads?

iPads go to the App Store, Android tablets to Google Play.

Can I update the links after printing?

Yes, all three destinations can be edited anytime.

My app is iPhone-only for now. Is this still useful?

Yes: set the App Store, plus a fallback page saying Android is coming with a way to get notified. Add Google Play later without reprinting.

Can I use the official store badges?

Yes on your printed piece, following Apple's and Google's published badge guidelines.
