QR code type

This QR code will be editable after printing. Its final short link is created with your account.

The page to open. You can change it after printing.

A QR code grows with what it holds. A 25-character link fits in a 25 by 25 module grid. A 120-character link, common with tracking parameters or share links, needs a 45 by 45 grid. At the same printed size, each module gets almost half as big, and the code gets harder to read from a distance or on a scuffed surface.

That is one concrete perk of a dynamic code: it always holds a short link, however long the destination is. The pattern stays airy and readable on a small business card or sticker.

Tracking campaigns with UTM tags

If your site runs Google Analytics 4 or Umami, add UTM parameters to the destination, for example utm_source=flyer, utm_medium=print, utm_campaign=fall-sale. Your analytics can then tell poster visits from social visits. The free UTM builder suggests a naming scheme made for print, and the QR code analytics page explains how scan counts and site sessions fit together.

Changing the destination after printing

  1. Create a dynamic code and print it.
  2. The day the address changes (new site, new promo, moved page), open the code in your account.
  3. Replace the destination and save. The next scans land on the new page within seconds.

QRTada uses a temporary redirect (HTTP 302), never a permanent one (301) that browsers remember. That is why an edit applies right away, even for someone who scanned the code last week. The glossary entry on the 302 redirect explains the difference.

  • Plain http links: some phones show a security warning. Use the https address.
  • Preview links from Canva, Drive or Dropbox: they may require a login or expire. Test them in a private window before printing.
  • Stacked shorteners: a bit.ly link behind a dynamic QR code adds a pointless hop and slows the page. Use the final address.

Every destination is checked against known malicious site lists when you create or edit a code. A flagged link is refused, which protects the people scanning your codes and your own reputation.

Test before you print

The designer decodes the final render before each download, the way a phone would. Still scan the proof at its real printed size with your own phone. The QR code checker measures contrast and quiet zone on any existing file.

Your codes keep working, even if you stop paying

Every code you create or edit on a paid plan keeps redirecting to its last destination, forever.

Static codes are included in every plan: they rely on no server and never expire.

Frequently asked questions

Does a URL QR code expire?

A static code never expires. A dynamic code depends on the service behind it: with QRTada it keeps redirecting even if you stop paying, under our lifetime guarantee.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes on Pro: the code can read qr.bluedoorcafe.com/menu instead of qrtada.com.

How many scans are included?

Scans are unlimited on every plan.

What happens to people who scan while I edit?

Nothing breaks: they get the old or the new destination depending on the exact second. The switch takes a few seconds at most.

Can I pick the end of the link?

On Pro you choose the slug, such as qrtada.com/blue-door-menu, if it is available.

When is a static URL code enough?

For a short address you will never change, like your homepage. It will not count scans and cannot be edited, but it has no dependency at all.
