Google review QR code generator

The code opens the review form of your Google Business Profile, not the listing itself. One scan, one tap on the stars, one review posted.

QR code type

This QR code will be editable after printing. Its final short link is created with your account.

In Google Business Profile, choose “Ask for reviews” and copy the link.

The most common mistake is to put your Google Maps listing in the code. Customers land on the listing, have to find "Write a review" further down, and many give up on the way. The direct link opens the rating window right away. It looks like this:

https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=ChIJ...

The placeid identifies your business uniquely. Find it with the free Google review link generator, or in your Business Profile under "Ask for reviews", which also gives you a short g.page/r/.../review link.

What Google does not allow

Google's user-generated content policy is explicit, and breaking it can get reviews removed or the profile restricted:

  • No incentives: no discount, free drink or raffle entry in exchange for a review.
  • No review gating: you cannot send only happy customers to Google and route unhappy ones elsewhere.
  • No reviews written for customers, and no reviews from your own staff.

In the US, the FTC's rule on consumer reviews, in force since October 2024, also bans buying reviews and suppressing negative ones. Asking every customer for honest feedback is fine, and that is exactly what the code is for.

Where to put it, and how big

Recommended placements for a review QR code
PlacementFormatCode size
Counter or table stand4 x 6 in1.5 to 2 in
Sticker by the register3 x 3 in2 in
Card handed with the check3.5 x 2 in1 in
Door, seen on the way out5 x 7 in3 to 4 in

The best moment is the end of the experience: the check, the pickup, the hotel checkout. A table tent or a sticker near the register outperforms a poster at the entrance.

What to say to customers

One short line is enough, and the frame text can carry it: "Your review helps us, it takes 30 seconds." Skip "Leave us 5 stars", which reads like an order and backfires. Training staff to mention the code at payment often does more than the stand itself.

Measuring the effect

Google review codes are part of the advanced types on Pro, included in the Pro trial. You see how many people scanned and when. Compare with reviews received in your Business Profile over the same period: the gap tells you whether the form opens smoothly and whether the ask is clear. One code per placement (stand, card, door) shows which one works. The restaurant guide walks through a complete dining room setup.

Your codes keep working, even if you stop paying

Every code you create or edit on a paid plan keeps redirecting to its last destination, forever.

Static codes are included in every plan: they rely on no server and never expire.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Google review link ever change?

The Place ID is stable, but Google can reissue it after a move or a merge of listings. With a dynamic code you update the link without reprinting.

Can I use one code for several locations?

Each location has its own Place ID, so make one code per location. That also shows which location collects the most reviews.

Do customers need a Google account?

Yes, Google requires sign-in to post a review. Most Android phones already are; on iPhone, a sign-in may be requested.

Can I do the same for Yelp?

Yelp tells businesses not to ask for reviews at all, so we do not recommend a Yelp review code. Tripadvisor and others have their own rules: read them first.

Can I give a discount to people who leave a review?

No. Google forbids it, and so does the FTC rule for reviews conditioned on sentiment. Thank every customer the same way, review or not.
