Menu page vs PDF on a phone
A PDF menu is usually the print layout squeezed onto a phone: guests pinch, zoom and scroll both ways. US rules worth knowing
- Chains with 20 or more locations must show calories on menus and menu boards, a federal requirement in force since May 7, 2018. The FDA's guidance says the QR code cannot replace that disclosure on the physical menu.
- Allergen information: the FDA Food Code asks restaurants to notify customers about major food allergens, and several states and cities go further. A digital menu with allergen fields helps, but staff must still be able to answer.
- Accessibility: keep a printed menu for guests who do not use a smartphone, and make sure your digital menu stays readable with large text settings.

Not everywhere. Chains must keep calorie disclosures on the physical menu, and guests without a smartphone still need a way to read it. Treat the code as a complement.

No, the menu page displays your menu. For ordering or payment, add a button linking to your online ordering or payment provider.
