A dynamic code detects the phone at scan time: iPhones open Apple Maps, Android phones open Google Maps. It is the safest option when you do not know which phones your visitors carry, and the address can be fixed without reprinting. If your crowd mostly drives with Waze, a URL QR code with a Waze link works too.
Street address or coordinates?
A street address is fine for a storefront in town. Coordinates are more precise for a parking entrance, a tent in a field, a warehouse loading dock or a cabin whose mailing address sends drivers down the wrong road. In Google Maps, a long press on the exact spot shows the coordinates to copy. Paste a Maps link in the designer and it extracts the coordinates for you.

Mistakes to avoid
- Latitude and longitude swapped: -97.7431, 30.2672 lands in Antarctica instead of Austin. Latitude always comes first.
- A shortened share link (
maps.app.goo.gl/...): it works, but you depend on a shortener you do not control. Use coordinates or the full address. - An ambiguous address: there are thousands of Main Streets. Always include city, state and ZIP code.
For an event, the event QR code combines venue, date and an "Add to calendar" button on one page.
Size and placement
People look up an address at the last minute: at a gate, in a parking lot, at a trailhead, sometimes at night. On a gate or fence sign read from 10 feet, print the code at least 12 inches wide on a matte, light background that will not bounce back headlights. On an invitation held in hand, 1 inch is enough. Always print the address in plain text too, so someone with no battery or no signal can still type it into their GPS.

Does it work offline?
