Static: the event in the pattern
A static code holds the event itself in iCalendar format (RFC 5545):

END:VEVENTTimes are written in UTC (the trailing Z): 15:00 Z is 10 am in Austin during daylight saving time. The designer converts from your time zone. Support varies by phone: some offer to add the event, others only show raw text. That is why the dynamic version is safer.
Dynamic: an event page
A dynamic code leads to a hosted page that presents the event properly: title, dates, venue, description, organizer and a ticketing link. A button downloads an .ics file that iPhone, Android, Outlook and Google Calendar all open. If the time changes, you fix the page and your posters stay correct.

Before, during, after: one code for the whole event
The same printed code can work throughout. Before, the page shows the schedule and the calendar button. On the day, add the site map and set times. After, point the code to photos or the date of next year's edition: posters left up keep working for you. On Pro these switches can be scheduled for a precise date and time, in your account's time zone.
Time zones: the trap with online events
For a webinar followed across the country, the time must show in each attendee's zone. The .ics file carries UTC and every calendar converts it. Never write "6 pm" alone in the description: write "6 pm Eastern". For in-person events the question rarely comes up, but check the time zone in your account settings before printing anyway.
Formats and placements
- Poster read from 3 to 6 feet: a 4 to 8 inch code. See QR codes on posters.
- Flyer handed out: a 1.25 to 2 inch code. See QR codes on flyers.
- Invitation: a 1 inch code, with the location as a second code if the venue is hard to find.
Common mistakes
- A date without the year: calendars may read "10/17" as this year when the event is next year.
- No end time: calendars create a one-hour slot by default, misleading for an all-day event.
- A page not updated after a postponement: that is the whole point of a dynamic code, use it.

Yes with the event page. People who already added the event have to update their own copy.
Can I use one code for a recurring event?
Yes. Update the page with the next date after each session, or schedule the change on Pro. The printed code stays valid for the whole season.
Can the page be in two languages?
Yes, write it in English and French and visitors pick their language at the top.
Can I link to ticketing?
Yes, the event page has a field for it. QRTada is not a ticketing system and does not check people in.
