What the tool does
WhatsApp documents an official "click to chat" link: https://wa.me/ followed by the number, optionally ?text= and the message. Two details break most hand-written links, and the tool handles both.

The final number must have 8 to 15 digits including the country code, as required by the E.164 international numbering plan. If not, the tool tells you before you share a broken link. For numbers outside North America, type them with a leading + and the country code.
Where to use your link
- Instagram or TikTok bio: a direct chat link converts better than a number to copy.
- Email signature: "Questions? Message me on WhatsApp."
- A button on your site: it opens the app on mobile and WhatsApp Web on desktop.
- A printed QR code: on a window, a truck or a card, with the WhatsApp QR code.
Writing a prefilled message that works
The message starts the conversation, it does not replace it. Leave the sentence open ("I'd like a quote for") so people finish it. Mention the context when you use several channels: "Hi, I saw your sign at the farmers market" tells you where the lead came from. Skip anything over two sentences: most people delete it.
Test the link before sharing it
Open the link from a phone other than the one behind the number: WhatsApp should show your profile photo or business name, then the prefilled message in the text box. If WhatsApp says the number is not on the app, check the country code. On a computer, the link goes through a WhatsApp page offering the desktop app or WhatsApp Web, which is expected. Finally, send yourself a test message to confirm notifications reach the phone that will actually answer customers, especially if WhatsApp Business runs on a shared tablet at the counter.
Limits to know
- One link per number: wa.me opens a one-to-one chat, not a group. Groups need an invite link, which any admin can reset.
- The number must have WhatsApp: test the link from another phone before printing.
- The message is visible in the URL: keep anything confidential out of it.
