The WhatsApp link format
WhatsApp documents an official "click to chat" link, and that is what the code holds:

How it differs from WhatsApp's own QR code
WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business each offer a built-in QR code. Two differences matter for a business:
- Group invite links (
chat.whatsapp.com/...) can be reset by any group admin. The printed code then dies without warning. - The native code has no frame, no call to action and no stats. With a dynamic QRTada code you see how many people scanned, and you can change the number or message without reprinting.

Keep it short. Past one or two sentences, people delete it before writing their own. The message should get them started, not speak for them. Leave the sentence open, ending with "for" or "about", so people naturally type the rest.
Static or dynamic for WhatsApp
In a static code the full wa.me link sits in the pattern. With a two-sentence message, the encoded link often passes 150 characters, and the pattern gets dense and hard to read under 1.25 inches. A dynamic code holds a 25-character short link: the pattern stays light whatever the message, you can switch numbers (a new sales rep, a seasonal line) without touching the sign, and scans get counted. For window decals and cards, dynamic is almost always the better pick.
Mistakes that break the link
- A number without the country code (
